Luisa’s Story

“This may come as a surprise, but you’d be more likely to find me on a football pitch than in front of a mirror with make-up brushes…I was always a bit of a Tomboy! My sister was a beauty therapist and had a job going where she worked, so, I trained as a therapist and worked alongside her. It was more a convenience than an interest, that is, until I started to focus on the aesthetic side of things.

“Makeup and eyelashes never really interested me, but the workings of the skin; how it renews and repairs itself, and the process of anti-ageing techniques did catch my attention!”

In honesty, I wasn’t interested in beauty, but aesthetics yes, from a wellbeing and medical point of view. I enjoy making people feel better about themselves inside and out and although I’ve had beauty therapy training, I actually kind of fell into this profession, as I originally wanted to be a nurse and worked for the NHS for several years.

In my industry (and in life in general), it’s very important to learn new skills and push yourself to be better. I’ve always had a wide range of interests as well as a passion for learning, which is key asset in the aesthetic industry. With a range of new treatments and techniques to learn, I attend as many training courses as possible between running my clinics to ensure I have all the latest information and treatments for my clients.

I have just moved into a new space at Gym Etc. in Gateshead, with a new-look Newcastle Skin Clinic, which also has a new Beauty Bar offering nails, lashes and brows – not bad for a football-loving Tomboy I suppose!”

As a nurse, it’s important to me that my business gives something back to help with medical and nursing services.

“I picked St Oswald’s, based in the North East as I know about the good work they do for the local community. I have friends who have benefited from the hospice. As a nurse, it’s important to me that my business gives something back to help with medical and nursing services.

For me, it’s important to keep any funds we raise in the North East, and my aim is to contribute as much as I can to charity, so I chose St Oswald’s, my local hospice, because I know they do amazing work, helping both children and adults.

I actually visited the hospice about 15 years ago as a student nurse, so I felt I already have a good connection to St. Oswald’s, having been a nurse myself and when safe to do so, after the CV-19 pandemic, I plan to return to the hospice as a volunteer too.”
